Vantage recently attended the STLE 2015 Conference, which was an excellent opportunity to learn more about the industry and strengthen network contacts. STLE, the Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers, is an individual membership society focusing on providing solutions for the technical, professional and scientific issues faced in the Lubrication Engineers industry. It is the premier technical society in this particular sector and serves more than 150 companies and 10,000 individuals. Because STLE is uniquely positioned to benefit from the technology Vantage offers, attending the conference was a good opportunity for us.
One highlight of the conference was the chance to hear keynote speaker Captain Heidemarie M. Stefanyshyn-Piper, a graduate of MIT and a Navy ROTC Scholarship winner. Captain Piper has served as an Engineering Duty Officer in the Navy and was selected as an astronaut in 1996. She served on two space flights and has logged over 27 days, 15 hours in space. Her keynote address was held on May 18 at 10:30.
In addition to her keynote address, the conference had several panel discussions that provided key information into issues facing the industry. The Nanotribology Education Course, held on May 17, covered the applications of biotechnology and nanotechnology in the future of engineering. On May 19, a two-hour panel discussion on Bioinspired Surfaces for Tribological Applications was held as well. In addition, 11 industry-specific courses were held throughout the five-day event to provide professional development opportunities for attendees.
Vantage Specialty Chemicals, the parent company of Vantage , attended the trade show as an exhibitor. The trade show took place on May 17 through May 21 in Dallas at the Omni Hotel. It is considered the most respected venue for technical information and professional development in the industry, and this was the 70th annual exhibition. It also presents a unique opportunity to network in a specialty field among international contacts.
